Problem

The music business primarily benefits third parties, not those who create it. Artists struggle at every step of the creative process to make the music we all love. Meanwhile, big tech's appetite for AI training data is fueling a new wave of exploitation.

Solution

Choose to do good in the music industry. Support artists with grants that help them create, despite the flaws in today's system. Reject the industry status quo and value artists and musicians as critical cultural contributions, not just business ventures.

Outcome

Good music that is made by artists who feel valued, hopeful, and supported. Done in a way that multiplies impact by creating jobs for professionals, opportunities for artists, and sets a new tone for what is possible in the music industry.

How do we Help?

Our grants provide support to talented, hard-working artists who are driven and dedicated to their craft.
Irene Diaz

After losing her sound to other people's ideas of what she should sound like, a Recording Fund grant empowered Irene Diaz to reconnect with the soulful, throwback sounds of her roots. Working with hand-selected studio musicians, she recorded "Anything for You" live in the studio.

Impact Story

J Solomon

Propelled by the success of his debut EP, J Solomon used a Recording Fund grant to record "Lying Around"—the opening track of his anticipated sophomore EP. The grant enabled him to dig into the recording process more deeply, while still allowing him to financially manage the production of the rest of the EP.

Impact Story

Cheek MULA

Nominated by the non-profit Guns For Grants, Cheek MULA uses his platform to call out the major label-sponsored violence that has taken over sub-genres of hip-hop. "Paying For Hits" is a critique of the injustice perpetrated by the industry but fortified by artists eager to get their moment in the spotlight.

Granting Harmony

Our grants Record Music and Create Jobs

The independent music economy depends on artists and musicians having the monetary resources to create. Our grants support the recording process while creating economic opportunity by being paid directly to those hired to record, produce, mix, and master on an artist's behalf. This creates multiple touch points of impact along the grant path and directly stimulating the independent music economy.
